How do I get the most out of Caravat?

The very first thing is for you to create your PRO-file on Caravat and start exploring to all features of the site. 3 simple steps for you:
1. Complete your PRO-file: This is a list of your achievements (in education & experience) and interests that you would like to share with your network. Your PRO-file is your personal brand. The more detailed and completed your profile, the better you promote your brand, the easier to find and be found on Caravat.
2. Expand your network:Build up your professional network by inviting people you know and trust to join. Having a large network can help you with your work and career development.
3. Get recommendations: These endorsements from your colleagues, business partners or clients are powerful than any self introduction. Ask your trusted connections to speak up for you. Get recommended for the good work you do.

How do I join Caravat?

There are 2 ways to be a member of Caravat website,

-> Apply for Caravat Membership. Steps to apply:
1. On Caravat.com home page, click Apply for Membership Now in the upper right.
2. Fill in the Signup forms and click Next.
3. When the waiting approval message appears, an email with login data will be sent to your email box within 3 business days.
4. Check email, click the provided link to login to Caravat with your provided login data.

-> Or request an invitation from a friend or colleague who is already a member of the site. By this way, you can receive a verification email right after finishing the Signup forms.

I forgot my password, how can I retrieve it?

To retrieve your password, please follow these steps:
1. From LogIn page, click Forgot password?
2. Fill in your registered email address and click Submit. You will receive an instruction email from us.
3. Open this email and click on the link provided. A new page will open for you to enter your new password twice. Then click Reset.
4. When the successful notice appears, your password has been changed successfully. You can then login to Caravat using your new password.

How do I change my password?

To change your password, follow the steps below:
1. On the homepage, click on Login.
2. Login with your username and password. Then click on Account & Privacy Settings in the right top navigation menu.
3. Confirm current password, enter your new password twice then click Submit.
4. When the successful confirmation message appears, your password has been changed.

How do I change my email login?

To change your email login, follow the steps below:
1. On the homepage, click on Login.
2. Login with your username and password. Then click on Account & Privacy Settings in the right top navigation menu.
3. Scroll down to the Change Email section.
4. Confirm current email, enter your new email twice then click Submit.
5. Check email, click the provided link to confirm you new email login.
6. When the successful confirmation message appears, your email login has been changed.

How to complete my PRO-file?

To complete your account, all of the following elements need filling in:
  • Your current position & education: 30%
  • 1 past position: 15%
  • Your specialties: 5%
  • Your PRO-file summary: 5%
  • Your PRO-file photo: 5%
  • Your contact details: 10%
  • Receive at least 3 recommendations: 15%
  • Make a recommendation: 5%
  • Reach 20 first handshake connections: 5%
  • Reach 30 first handshake connections: 5%

How do I edit / update my PRO-file?

To edit your profile, please follow these steps:
1. On the homepage, click on Login.
2. Login with your username and password. Then click on Edit Profile in the left top navigation menu.
- To change your Summary, click Edit to the left of the "Summary" title.
- To change details of any position, or to delete it from your profile, click Edit next to its title.
- To add a position, click Add Position to the right of Experience header.
- To change the details of any education entry or to delete it from your profile, click Edit next to its title.
- To add a education entry, click Add Education to the right of Education header.
If you would like to change your name, location or privacy settings, click on Account & Privacy Settings at the top of any page.

How do I upload a photo on my PRO-file?

To upload a photo on your profile, please follow these steps:
1. On the homepage, click on Login.
2. Login with your username and password. Then click on Edit Profile in the left top navigation menu.
3. In Edit PRO-file page, click Edit Photo under the box of photo in your Caravat Business Card.
4. Browse for you photo, then click Upload Photo (only use a close-up photo of yourself)

Please notice that your photo will be screened and approved by Caravat Membership Committee consultants before it goes live. We only accept professional photo files *.jpeg, *.png, *.gif with size less than 2M.

How do I build my professional network?

Find people who can and want to add value to your chosen professional pursuit. Connect with them and be connected by them. Your network should be made of people whose value is measured by the amount and quality of knowledge and resources available within your network.

Remember Caravat leads with "quality, not quantity". Generally it's not about the number of connections you may have or connecting for connecting's sake. Your network should be about quality of knowledge, resources, skills and advocacy that Caravat can help unlock.

Invitations are a good resource when reaching out to people to ask them to join your network. Ensure when sending invitations you know the person you are reaching out to, this is generally someone you have worked with, collaborated on projects with or maybe attended school with. These will be persons that can recommend you to others. These persons will become your first handshake connections.

Review invitations you receive carefully. If you do not know a person that has sent you an invitation you can:

1. You can use the "Reply" link and send a message back to the inviter, i.e. Thank you for the invitation to connect however I'm afraid I cannot accept it at this time. Caravat is a powerful tool for managing my professional network and designed to help me maintain the connections I have. It is a Caravat best practice to only connect directly to those whom I know well and would recommend. I'd like to be able to give a referral to any of my connections when asked. If I don't know you well enough to do so, Caravat isn't as powerful for my network. Please understand and remember to invite me to connect after we've had a chance to work together.

2. Click the "I don't know" button which will place a mark on the sender's account that tells Caravat this person may not be using invitations correctly. This also prevents them from sending another invite to you in the future.

Introductions are also a good resource to reach out to persons that you may not know directly. When reaching out to another member via an Introduction ensure that you review that member's profile closely. See what contact they are open to. Review the degree of relationship to you, Caravat best practice indicates that introductions should only be used with 2nd degree members. This will ensure that you will know everyone that may see your request and message. The unknown degree, or 3rd degree and beyond does not allow you to know who is reviewing your request, your introduction may pass to a members' boss another recruiter etc.

How do I create a recommendation?

There are 3 ways to recommend a colleague, service provider, or business partner: from your profile, from their profile and in response to a request for a recommendation.

1. To recommend a person from your profile:
  • Click the Recommendations tab or the Recommend more people link
  • Choose Make tab in Recommendations
  • Choose a 1st handshake connection you want to recommend
  • Follow the instructions provided.
2. To recommend a person from their profile:
  • Click Recommend or under Experience, find the position for which you want to recommend them and click Recommend [name] for this position link.
  • Choose a category: service provider, business partner, or colleague
  • Follow the instructions provided
3. To recommend a person in response to a request:
  • Open the message from your Caravat inbox.
  • Click Make Recommendation
  • If this is an original request, you will be directed to a page where you can compose and submit your recommendation.
  • If this is a request to replace an existing recommendation, you will be taken to a page where you can edit the previous recommendation and submit the revised text.

How can I request for a recommendation?

To request a recommendation, follow these steps:
1. Open your Profile
2. Click Request Recommendations link under the position you want to be recommended for or click Get Recommended button next to your Caravat name card
3. Select the position you want to be recommended for
4. Decide who you'll ask (select a 1st handshake connection)
5. Create the message to be sent to your contact or use the default message
6. Click Send button

Can I edit a recommendation that I've written for another Caravat User?

To edit a recommendation, follow these steps:
1. Go to your Recommendation in the left menu
2. Choose tab Manage Sent
3. Click Edit next to the recommendation(s) that you want to update
5. Update the recommendation(s)
6. Click Send button

Why should I use Caravat Introductions?

This feature allows you to contact users who are not your direct connections, through the people you know. Introductions can help you to get higher acceptance chance and avoid being marked as Spam. When you want to contact a user who is 2nd or 3rd handshake away from you, you can simply request an Introduction through one of your trusted connections.

How to use Introductions?

To be introduced to a 2nd or 3rd handshake connection in your network, follow these steps:
1. Choose a user that you want to contact in your network
2. Choose a shared connection to ask for an Introduction
3. Your connection will forward it on to the desired recipient (2nd handshake connection) or to another shared connection (3rd handshake connection)
5. Contact the desired member after their acceptance

What does Caravat do with my information?

Caravat is committed to protecting the privacy of all individuals who use our services. We do not give out your email address or other personally identifiable information to other users or to third parties without your permission. Review our Privacy Policies to learn more about the kind of data that is collected about you, with whom it is shared, and for what purposes. The User Conduct section of the Caravat User Agreement also shows the policies that users agree to respect regarding the privacy of other users.

How to protect my privacy the best?

Caravat recommends that you only connect to people you know and trust well enough to recommend them to others. This gives you much more control over who can see your profile and who can contact you, and it makes it far more likely that Introduction requests that are forwarded to you will be in line with your interests. In addition, since your direct connections are able to see your most up-to-date primary email address, connecting only to people you trust will help you keep your contact information safe. Select a password for Caravat that can't easily be guessed - for instance, one that includes 10 or more characters and includes both letters and numbers. Never give your Caravat password to others. If you use a public or shared computer to log in to Caravat, make sure that you log out completely when you've finished.
